come on skinny love, just last the year

I'm not really all that into birthday celebrations these days, especially now that I'm on the verge of a quarter-century with no real accomplishment behind me, but this year, I decided I should do something. My first order of business (as a mentioned a couple posts ago) was to buy myself a new guitar. After many shopping trips and a lot of online searches, I landed on this little fella. A lot of people are anti-Ovation, but Scott, Fortner, and I all agreed it was pretty nice, so I bought it, named it Ezra James Sharkington, and now Ezra and I are sitting at home spending the last night of my first quarter-century together. I'm happy with my purchase, plus now I can use my old guitar for crazy tunings, like Bon Iver.

The other part of my birthday celebration was a weekend trip down to Carlsbad to hang out with my brother and his wife. They're planning on going on a road trip with no destination or timeline, so I figured I'd go down to help them move stuff into storage and enjoy the town for possibly my last time. For me, going to Carlsbad is like an old man buying a motorcycle; it's sort of a way to relive my youth, or at least what I like to think my youth was. I eat lots of junk food, buy stuff I don't really need, talk to pretty girls, and play video games all night with my friends. This trip was no exception. After all the moving was done each day, we rewarded ourselves with all my favorite foods. Saturday night was quesadillas at King's, Sunday brunch at Bellefleur, Sunday night pizza at Pizza Port (my new favorite pizza), Monday we just had cheetos and tortilla chips with homemade dip for lunch, followed by another trip to Pizza Port for dinner. We filled the remaining time with Mario Party and shopping. I feel tired and sick now, but it was all worth it.

Anyway, have a good St. Patrick's Day and please wear green...that's all I ask of you.
