Well, I just looked at my last post to see where I left off, and I have to tell you that the part about my final trip to Carlsbad was a lie. After going there last month to help my brother Matt and his wife Carrie move, I decided I needed more closure and went back one more time for Easter. So Saturday night, my brother Travis and I packed up our things and made the drive down to meet up with Matt at Carrie's restaurant while she finished her shift. They had already moved out of their apartment, so we spent the night hanging out in a couple restaurant bars and then wound up back at the hotel room with some coworkers and friends until about 4am. From the stories I've heard and my few encounters, I get the impression that the lives of restaurant employees are pretty well represented by the movie Waiting. It seems like they spend their days dealing with annoying customers and then let loose pretty hard most nights. Anyway, I woke up Easter morning in the hotel bed with two girls and looked down to see Matt asleep on the floor with giant novelty sunglasses and a large inflatable monkey. I then reached for what I thought was the TV remote from under Trav, but it turned out to be a pistol. If I go into any more detail, none of that will seem nearly as cool, so I'll stop there. We packed up our things in a hurry so Matt and Carrie could get to their last days of work, and then I spent the day wandering around the beach, eating all the brunch I could manage, and fighting off earthquakes.
Speaking of hotel parties, I finally saw the movie The Hangover and I have to say I was slightly disappointed. It was definitely a solid movie and had some laughs, but I think a year's worth of mega-hype hurt it a little. Also, this is one case where the commercials gave away too many surprises. But given I haven't really seen any new movies in the past 6 months or so, I was happy to see anything. I think if I watch it again down the road, I'll probably enjoy it more without the expectations.
Now on to more important stuff. If anyone is still reading this and you like music and you live near LA and you aren't in my band, Potential Difference is having a little contest for free tickets to our next show at the Good Hurt on April 30th. Just email potentialdifference@gmail.com with your full name and your favorite P-Diff song (if you don't know any, there are three in the little player at the right side of this screen to get you started) and 10 lucky winners will have their names put on a guest list to get into the show free. The contest ends this Saturday (4/17) at noon PST, so you should go ahead and do it now. If you want more details, check out the Facebook event or the fan page.
